“Paul Daley is not a bad guy doing malicious things throughout his whole career, we just take it on a case by case basis, but I think he learned his lesson. It’s up to him to control himself, and we’re going to give him the opportunity.

That said, we’re definitely going to keep our eye on him and make sure he abides by the rules and the regulations with the commissions that we’re promoting in and along with the Strikeforce rules.

The fight that we’re discussing internally if Paul gets past Scott maybe he and Evangelista Cyborg could fight, we could put that fight together in relatively quick fashion, maybe next year in the next three or four months, we can put that fight together and the winner of that fight could fight Nick Diaz.”

Paul Daley On Training Thai Boxing In Holland

You historically split your training camp between the UK & Mikes Gym in Holland, how did that relationship begin?

Well, back in the early cage rage days, I fought Joey van Wanrooij who was from Mikes Gym at the time. He put up such a good fight, we became friends at the after party and stayed in touch. I then started following a lot of Melvin’s [Manhoef] fights and we became friends.

Mike wrapped my hands for a fight at the old Cage Rage and we became good mates from then, we stayed good friends and I asked if I could come over to Holland and he was like no problem. They looked after me really well, didn’t charge me, and fed me, so for that past 3 or 4 years I’ve been going over there.

What’s it like training in Holland compared to the UK?

In Holland you’re in the bottom of the food chain, there level of Thai boxing is so high, they do it in day in day out, every single day; the levels are so high, you are literally fighting to stay alive when you train over there [laughs], it’s really good.

When UFC middleweights Nate Marquardt and Yushin Okami do battle in Oberhausen, Germany at UFC 122, number one contender status will be on the line. This bout will serve as the night’s main event — yes, that is not a joke. I suppose since it is a free card we cannot complain about the lackluster match up too much.

What does worry me are Marquardt’s comments. If you really analyze what he says, he is promising a snooze fest.

“He’s a very hard guy to attack, so unless I can get him to come out of his shell and kind of attack me more, it could be a chess match until I find that opening and who knows how long that will take because this is for a title shot and I’m not going to go in there and try to put on the most exciting fight and lose the fight,” said Marquardt.

Translation: this is going to be a staring contest with someone waiting until the last minute to throw a punch and get the decision.

Okami is a counter fighter. He often looks for his opponent’s weaknesses before attacking them. If Marquardt looks to employ the same strategy, it is going to be a long fifteen minutes.
